When it comes to subsurface contamination, there is obviously more there than meets the eye. Statistical and geostatistical modeling, simulation and visualization programs provide valuable insight into the true nature of the site geology, and help in the characterization of site contaminants. Modeling results help engineers design the best solution to address the site’s specific problems.

Our Approach
Malcolm Pirnie applies modeling, simulation and visualization techniques to your projects using a wide array of proprietary computer programs and software available in the public domain (from government agencies such as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Geological Survey, Dept. of Defense and others). We also actively integrate groundwater modeling with Geographical Information Systems (GIS) to fine-tune the model input parameters.
By modeling, simulating and animating groundwater and subsurface pollution data, we are able to create “living” three-dimensional maps of your site. These allow for easier visualization of subsurface conditions, groundwater movement, and contaminant fate and transport — which is especially useful during the evaluation and selection of alternative remedial strategies.
We use such programs to model contaminant fate and transport in aquifers and vadose zones, to estimate pumping effects on induced infiltration and surface water resources, to estimate contaminant loading to aquifers and surface water, and to optimize groundwater remedial design, as well. Modeling and geostatistical tools are also used to analyze geophysical borehole data, map contaminant distribution, optimize monitoring strategies, and support litigation. The result is the ability to make sense of complex subsurface information and use it to improve site investigations and remedial design.
Proven Experience Malcolm Pirnie has used state-of-the-art modeling techniques to evaluate aquifer and pollution characteristics to evaluate groundwater sources and design appropriate contaminant-removal strategies for industrial and public clients throughout the United States.
