Pedro Alvarez, the George R. Brown Professor and chair of the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at Rice University, has been named winner of the 2008 Malcolm Pirnie/ Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors (AEESP) Frontier in Research Award.

The award is given annually to recognize an AEESP member who has advanced the environmental engineering and science field through recognized research leadership and pioneering efforts in a new and innovative research area. Alvarez was honored for his work in nanotechnology and environmental studies, particularly those related to ethanol.
